June 10, 1941

June 10, 1941, was the bicentennial of the building of St. John's Church. It was a joyous occasion lasting many days and culminating with a speech by Viscount Halifax, British Ambassador to the United States. It was broadcast over WRVA.

A memorial service was held after the death of King George VI of England in 1952. An acolyte holds the British flag, and the Reverend Robert B. Echols (far left, next to the baptismal font) read the morning prayer from the Book of Common Prayer, given to the church by the King in 1941.
